R&D engineer

“I am happy in my work at Raute thanks to the great work atmosphere and the challenges that we take up”

My name is Louis Ducrettet. I’m French and I decided to move to Finland early in 2022 to discover Finnish culture. I joined Raute recently, three months ago. I work as a software engineer in the R&D team located in Kajaani. I live in Oulu and work mostly remotely. So far, I’ve taken a few trips to the Kajaani office when needed. We have five or six developers in a team and we start our days with a meeting in the morning. Otherwise, I work on different development projects and have meetings and calls with colleagues. I like to improve my skills by doing. For example, when I need to learn how to program software, the best way for me to learn is by doing. In the future, I would like to work on projects with more responsibilities and participate in research projects to be more competitive.

Before joining Raute, I worked as an R&D engineer in Electricity of France (EDF). I was part of the R&D department and I had the responsibility to renovate the automatism of an old climate test room. I’ve also done all my studies in France. After two years of intensive studying in an integrated French engineering school majoring in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, I integrated into a French engineering school located in Poitiers, western France. My diploma specialty is “energy” but it is general. I decided to have more knowledge and skills in the field of electrical and software development. I have also done a double diploma from the University of Poitiers to have a Master's degree in “Automatism and electrical engineering” to have stronger theoretical knowledge.

As hobbies, I like to do mountain biking and hiking. I also like to do some team sports such as volleyball and handball. I also enjoy foraging mushrooms and all stuff that nature can offer us. I listen to a lot of music; Finnish metal music is one of my favorites.
